Ingredients
- 3 cups of flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons heaping sugar (if you like it sweet)
- 1/2 cup of vegetable shortening (or lard)
- 2 cups of buttermilk or canned milk
Make it step by step
- Heat a skillet or pan over medium-high heat.
- Add oil (vegetable, canola, etc), butter, shortening. I used very little oil—maybe 1 tsp. Lower the heat to medium.
- Combine all dry ingredients and shortening and mix well.
- Then slowly add in the milk until a manageable dough is formed.
- Shape balls of dough depending on how large you want the bread.
- Then flatten the balls into pancakes about ½ inch thick.
- Place in the pan and allow each side to brown, cooking each side for about 8 minutes or until fully cooked.
